In the sequel Divinity: Original Sin, set more than 1200 years after the first game (thus not long after the events of Divine Divinity), all magic was outlawed by the law of Pope Alexander the Innocent. You are one of many imprisoned mages, and in prison you meet three other mages with whom you decide to form an alliance, escape and stop the Pope...
Divinity: Original Sin 2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor and is once again an isometric turn-based RPG inspired by old-school RPGs. One of the main new features is a revamped character creation system, inspired by the Origins system from Dragon Age:Origins - your character can choose from several races, plus you can choose their backstory, which you'll experience in a short introduction. These choices affect the entire game, from how non-player characters react to you to the dialogue options and quests available.
The combat system has received improvements in the form of new elemental combinations and player professions. It also newly accounts for the ruggedness of the terrain, which you can use to your advantage. Multiplayer supports up to four players instead of two compared to the first game. Players in multiplayer can have different objectives thanks to the new Origin system, which can lead to group conflicts. Also new is a PvP arena mode where players can measure their strength against each other.
